Quality Control Laboratory

Elkins Machine & Tool Inc. offers a 510-square-foot, temperature-controlled quality control center, offering three optical comparatives with up to a 40-inch height gage. All gages are calibrated to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) standards and tracked by QC Gage Pro.

The area includes a Sheffield CMM 20- by 36-inch with PC-DMIS, two systems of DataLyzer SPC programs, a profiometer for surface measurements and is capable of performing PPAP (Production Part Approval Process). The Quality Control Laboratory also offers lot availability.

What quality ratings do we possess?
ISO 9001:2008 and ISO/TS 16949:2009.
What do I do if there are damaged or missing items upon delivery?
Since this is a step-by-step process, the first thing that you should do is contact Elkins shipping (Paul Adkins, p_adkins@elkinsmachine.net) or quality control (Anca Stingu, a_stingu@elkinsmachine.net) for instructions. When it comes to damage in delivery, if there is damage to the package, or if merchandise is missing, please keep the original shipping carton and contact us immediately so we can issue a damage claim with the carrier. In addition, Elkins must issue a return merchandise authorization form (RMA). DO NOT return the merchandise without going through these steps, because it delays the replacement of the order or the issuance of a credit.
What is the size of your Quality Control Department and is it temperature-controlled?
Elkins’ QC division is 500-square-feet and temperature-controlled. In total, Elkins’ sits on a four-building campus including 60,000 square foot of workspace and employs 85 on staff.
How do you maintain a consistent line of quality products?
Each customer’s order is reviewed for quality concerns by our experienced and certified staff. We generate a Process Flow and Control Plan for each part. Our goal is to ensure the quality of the part to meet the customer’s needs. All orders are reviewed for contract feasibility, fit and function
What quality procedure do you use?
We maintain quality procedures that include incoming material, first article, roving, incoming and final inspections. Our quality procedures are designed to ensure that our customer’s parts are produced exactly to print specification every time.
Can you provide Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and International Material Data System (IMDS) services?
Yes. We are able to provide all five levels of PPAP per customer requirements including IMDS.
Can Elkins provide material, heat-treating, plating and/or anodizing certifications?
Yes, we can provide all of the above certifications per customer requirements.
Does your quality process include Statistical Process Control (SPC)?
Yes, Elkins’ quality process includes SPC.
How do you calibrate your gauges?
We use both in-house (for instruments) and outsource (for rings and plug thread gauges, comparators and profilometers) calibration procedures.
