Elkins Machine & Tool is located right outside metropolitan Detroit. The facility’s location, in the suburban city of Romulus, MI, is within seconds of Detroit MetropolitanAirport and is readily accessible to all major truck and rail lines.

Reorganized in 2002, Elkins is now part of a 60,000-square-foot campus of buildings that includes Multi Machining Capabilities (MMC). While Elkins continues to serve as the partnership’s general screw machine outlet, MMC provides the organization’s computer numerical control (CNC) expertise.

Elkins’ divisions include the following:

The Quality Control Division is a 510-square-foot, temperature-controlled center, offering three optical comparators with up to a 40-inch height gage. All gages are calibrated to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) standards and tracked by Unipoint software. Elkins’ QC department is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

The Shipping and Receiving Division offers a 2,000-square-foot department, with complete package tracking and stocking (with release requirements) capabilities.

The Screw Machining and Tool Making Division offers an 11,000-square-foot department with experienced specialization in Stainless Steel and promotes its ability to turnaround problematic projects. It offers an inventory of 20 screw machines: 3, Model 61 New Britain 2¼-inch Screw Machines; 5, Model 61 New Britain 1 5/8-inch Screw Machines; and 12, Model 60 News Britain 1-inch Screw Machines.

The Secondary Operations Division is a 8,000-square-foot department of the plant that includes 15 Hardinge Turret Lathes; 10 Hardinge Speed Lathes; 2 Hardinge Automatic Chuckers; 9 Kent Owens Manual Mills; 3 Kent Owens Hydraulic Mills; 4 Leland-Gifford Multi-Spindle Drill Presses; 6 Speedy Cut Tappers; 2 Bridgeport Knee Mills; 1 Clausing Metosa Tool Room Lathe; 2 Miles Broaches; 1 Hardinge Omniturn Retrofit Lathe; 2 Haas VF-2 Vertical Machining Centers with 4th and 5th Axis; 2 Punch Presses; 1 Stamping Press; 8 Drilling Units; 1 “O” Ring Crimping Lathe; and other additional equipment.

The CNC Division is offered through his precision machining sister company, Multi Machining Capabilities (MMC), which is located right next door to Elkins on the manufacturing campus. It is 6,500-square-foot high-tech facility including. It includes the following turning centers (lathes): 1 Haas HL2 with Hydraulic Bar Feeder; 1 Haas SL20 with Bar Loader; 1 Haas SL20 with Live Tooling; 1 Haas SL30 with Bar Loader; 1 Omniturn GT75 Series 3 with Bar Feeder; 1 Omniturn GT75 Series 2 with Bar Feeder; 1 Omniturn GT75 Series 2; and 1 Miyano BNC 34T with Integrated Bar Feeder. It also has the following vertical machining center (mills): 3 Haas VF1; 1 Haas VF2; 1 Haas VF4 with Pallet Changer; 1 Haas Mini Mill; and 1 Fadal 2016L VMC.

Elkins Machine & Tool is located in Romulus, MI, approximately 20 minutes from downtown Detroit and just seconds from Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and all major freeways and railways in the region.

How big is your facility?
Elkins Machine & Tool offers an 11,000-square-foot screw machine and tool making division, supported by 8,000-square-feet of second operations, 2,000-square-feet of shipping and receiving and 510-square-feet of quality control. It’s CNC Division is located in the building next door (Multi Machining Capabilities) on the 60,000-foot, four-building manufacturing campus.

Do you have a loading dock?
No. The Elkins Shipping and Receiving Division does not have a loading dock. Our receiving capacity is 4,000 pounds per pallet or bundle.
